Project Breaking
What  Project Breaking is about

Anti-racism and anti-xenophobia CD, newspaper, book and tour.

Emile YX? www.emileyx.co.za of Black Noise, Heal the Hood Project www.healthehood.org and Project Breaking here. I have been working on an anti-racism and anti-xenophobia campaign since the beginning of last year. We have had many discussion and created "Project Breaking" after I took some dancers from Lavender Hill to practice with youth I was teaching breakdancing in Khyalitsha.

This gave birth to the project. We have since received funding from the Western Cape Cultural Commission to have activities and youth interaction.

Our next level of the project is to create a newspaper that is run by the people from the Cape Flats, for the people from the Cape Flats. We have just compiled a Hip Hop CD dealing with issues of Xenophobia and racism that we will be handing out to schools and libraries. We are also collecting stories from victims of these attacks and general stories from people who have in any way been affected by the growing racism and xenophobia in the country. These stories will be compiled in volume 2 of RAPPSS (Rhymes, Articles, Poetry, Pictures, Short Stories and Sketches).

It is our intention to tour schools and communities in and around Cape Town during July, August and September to encourage dialogue. In our discussion with many young people, we have been inspired by their positivity. We hope that these stories, books, CDs and videos will inspire conversation and finding solutions to these issues in our community and country.
